And I quote - "downloading will not work with Internet Explorer"

Went to download the latest update to Roxio's Toast CD burning application, and was surpisingly greeted by this message:

In order to download the update you will need Safari, Camino or Netscape browser – downloading will not work with Internet Explorer.

This is really no better than the silly coders who disallow any other browser, it's just that you don't often see the apple fall on IE's side of the tree.

Yep, it does speak to that. My point was that it was interesting to see someone excluding IE, when it's usually the case that sites exclude Safari, Mozilla, etc. - all but IE! Either way, it's all silliness.

Doesn't that just speak to the fact that Microsoft has chosen to no longer update free versions of Internet Explorer for the Mac? (Make no mistake; the newest version of IE:mac's rendering engine is available on a subscription basis with the MSN:Mac browser, and is likely used as the HTML renderer for Entourage 2004. It's simply not offered free any longer.) I agree though, that a better statement would be: "We allow all browsers to attempt downloading from our website, but we recommend standards-compliant (X)HTML, CSS, etc. browsers for optimal results." Ideally that statement would also be followed with a link to at least one standards-compliant browser or a page that listed several.
